Power Rankings: 2013 Week 11

Due to a shortened week of lunchetball and  a limited attendance of lunchketball players and attendance……I will do my best to rank the players that did play this week…..so here goes….

1)      Still at number one…..nothing has changed and nobody challenged Jorge this week for his number one spot with any one game great enough to slip into the number one spot …..and it is interesting to say but Jorge lost both games he played in this week but played well enough by rebounding, passing and defending to hold off any minute challenges to his esteemed position at the top of the list.

2)      Eric…..because of his magnificent shooting day on Wed,. he and Jorge pretty much held off four players to be in it till the last shot went down! What a hustle day for these two studs at the top of the list!

3)      Jimbo played well on the three team that took down the four team on Tuesday and played pretty solid….

4)      Matt and Adam  tied here….played well for their teams all week….neither shot particularly well this week, but made up for it in all other aspects of the game!

5)      Chris  played very well for the three team that took the four team down and played great defense and made pretty good passes and inspired his team to win with his example!

6)      Darren……had an ok game  but nothing special as he was limited by injury and will be looking to come back strong next week!

7)      Jr. and Jacob…….tied here at this spot, both played decent, both were good defensively and rebounded well, both passed ok, but neither made a large percentage of shots…….so this is where they are at for the week!

8)      And rounding out the troops………….Kracker is here………………………………and I will leave it at that…….thanks again for participating and hopefully next week is a good one and everyone is healthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace/out……………………………G

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 10

1. Jorge Super game even though only one appearance inspired his team to victory when all was almost lost……….

2. Jimbo  Great steady week with new aerodynamic haircut played better than everyone else EXCEPT Jorge

3.  Adam  Best week the kid has had since he started…..played tough through injuries and fatigue

4. Phil  Pretty good week for Phil, but could have been better if he had made a higher percentage of shots

5. Darren  good week and made some great shots………

6. Eric  best block of the week against Tzushinski……….but could have made better passes and more accurate shots to bring victory

7. Matt  had an off week……regular stud on court but missed a ton this week in only game and could not come back from that……

8. Jacob   started off good in Wednesday’s game but went cold and played outstanding defence all week

9. Jr.   played  right about where he plays normally….nothing fancy…..made some nice moves to the hoop

10. Kracker  was Kracker………………………………………cemented here sucking hind teet for a lackluster week because of many ailments and body aches…..poor guy did all he could just to be out there……we love our Kracker……

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 9

Note from the editor: The Power Rankings Presented by Gary have really taken off! This segment has outgrown the original “Power Rankings” page. In addition, Erik, aka “E”, reviewed the Power Rankings and noticed that it would be helpful for the visual learners in the audience to have a graphic display of the Power Rankings over time. His work is fascinating. It appears below the text of this post, and you may look forward to updates.

To better accommodate the thriving Power Rankings and Erik’s latest contribution, these will now be posted on the main blog page. The old rankings have been copied, posted separately to the main page, and backdated for your reference.

Enjoy!

Ok…..it is with much pain I must rank the players for the week of 2/25/2013-3/1/2013;
we had some participants playing only one game this week and others playing 3 games this week, so it is especially difficult to do this on the fly…..so here goes….
Numero UNO (that is number 1 to those of you who do not speak spanish);
1)Jorge…..what can I say…he did just enough today to keep his reign of consecutive numero unos going, he got his WHOLE team involved, was a spiritual leader and made his fair share of baskets…….he narrowly escaped the brilliant game of Phil on Wed., who played only average on Monday so by a slight hair, he retains his hold on this coveted spot!
2) Phil………played an excellent game on Wed…….but a relatively weak one for his normal participation on monday so it is with great fervor that I place him ever so gently here at number 2!!!!
3) Jimbo was Jimbo…….some days better ….some days not so much better….but steady as she goes……….
4) Adam…..played like the dickens this week! Great rebounding and passing and wonderful defense………a real energizer bunny that made his team so much better than usual!!!!! the whirling dervish was “in da house” and made a big splash this week!
5) Matt and Darrin tied for 5th this week……………..both played well in spurts and made excellent plays for their respective teams………hard to say who outplayed the other but they were both pretty consistant….Darrin played with less errors and Matt made more baskets and rebounded a ton!
6) Eric…….was a lightning bolt of offense on Friday and was all over the court…….other days was less impressive and fell a bit in the rankings due to turnovers and missed shots on the other games…..
7) Skooter…..played with little impact defensively and pooped out late in the game…but made some tough shots and great passes!!!!
8) Jacob…….played some tough D and had a good game, an average game and a bad game playing all week…..pretty steady player……but needs to make better shot selection at times and settle down and play the game slower and more efficiently….
9) Kracker……..played some tough D and made some nice shots on Wed……did not gun as much as in the past and learning to pass more and shoot less and this only helps his game!
10) Jr. ……played ok in spots and spotty in others….needs more improvement to move up in the rankings…….but is a good player for the most part and a nice guy.
ok…there you have it ….feel free to make any rebuttal….come strong or dont come at all!
till next week….peace/out…………G$..

Week 9

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 8

Today is going to be a really rough day for power rankings…….there were four games and some people only played one game and others played all four…so I have to keep in mind all the intanglibles on both sides of the ball….all the hustle and key points dealing with getting everyone on the team involved to forge a win…..it is with this thought in mind that I have to make the rankings as follows……and if you have a problem with them……I am sorry…feel free to offer up a rebuttal on any position but be warned….it wont alter the rankings unless you can make a point that is sooooooooo much better that I feel inclined to change my mind…..so with that said….here goes….
1) because Jorge won three of four games with his leadership and knowledge of the game….it did not come down to sheer skill but also court sense and great rebounding a driving to the hoop………
2)Nathan ……..made his whole team better, and powered his team to one out of two wins…..with his size and shooting and passing he is a stat machince! He may have outplayed Jorge a wee bit one on one, but in the grand scheme of things, did not get the win in one of his two games played with a good cast around him! Still, it is by the slightest of margins that he falls to second place but I have to put him here!
3) and that brings me to Matty Ice….strong at number 3, he is a stud on the boards, a stud driving to the hoop and has taken more of a beating than anyone else on the court in the last few weeks! He wins the “timex” watch award for three weeks in a row…..because he take a licking and keeps on ticking! He is the ironman out there and a true force in the making….watch out Phil ……he has taken your spot and if he can learn a bit more court sense when it comes to seeing the court and making better passes will be firmly in the 2nd or 3rd spot on a weekly basis! it is by the slightest margin I put him at number 3, but when he gets his teammates involved more he can move up even more!!!!
4) Jimbo………played well all week and is solid at number 4……..he is a steady player in this area and hardly ever falls any lower……but he earned his way here……Jimmer ……..Jimbo……call him what you want…..he is a good player (and a bit of a gunner) lol
5) Micheal……..played a great game on monday and was very instrumental in his team winning and made very few mistakes if any in the game, thus propelling him to this spot on the rankings!
6) Eric and Adam…..I have to give them a tie at this spot….they both play with such intensity, such vigor, such piss and vinegar….what can you say about them? they are almost mirror copies of one another, both dribble very unusual, both are fast, both are excellent rebounders and both steal the ball a lot…..the difference only lies in their shooting and passing abilities……where bigwater is a much better outside shooter than Adam, inside they are both forces to deal with and both fight for their rebounds to keep the play going……and they are both studs on the court….however Adam is a much better passer than bigwater E……he usually gets the ball to his shooters with more accuracy and knows when to pass whereas big E hardly ever passes and when he does….LOOK OUT!!! it can go anywhere with great velocity as Jake found out when the ball ricocheted off his nose in a game this week! I cannot figure out where to put these guys so I will keep them joined at the hip for now…..
8) Darren fits in nicely at this spot…played a wonderful game but nothing out of the ordinary for him……I dont recall much of his accomplishments this week….so he fits nicely here at number 8!
9) Kracker ……had a pretty solid week….make some shots and for once, knew when NOT to shoot so he helped his team win on several occastions! Good for you Kracker…..played with passion and heart and did his best not to get in the friggin way so his team would lose! Touche Kracker….I salute you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10) Jacob……played very average this week…did not shoot particularly well and made a few shots but took a LOT of bad shots as well! His shot selection is what hurts him the most…needs to make better choices when deciding to launch one up! Made a few layups but outside shooting and rebounding followups were not very accurate this week…played pretty good defense and rebounded well……
11) Q (little David)……made a few shots but was not very accurate with passing and did not do anything well enough to rank any higher than this….but remember he is the youngest player out there and tries really hard and has a good shot but needs to be a more rounded player when it comes to rebounding, defense and passing!
12) Jr. ….his knee bothered him this week and he played ok….nothing out of the ordinary….did not make many points or make any great plays so he sits here in the last position for now……..
there it is….love it or hate it! it is what it is……till next week…this is the “Old Man”, G$ , your beloved commish! peace/out suckas!

Update: I just noticed something….I forgot to rank Phil this week….so let me insert him at number 7 after Adam and Eric…..since he played well but did not play with the fervor of Eric and Adam this week………sorry but I forgot about him and so he has been placed in the rankings…..:(

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 7

Ok….now the task of doing the power rankings for this week…..Feb. 11-15…..I am rushed to do this to make a deadline so here goes:
1) Jorge……still crazy….after all these years……hah….a line from a Paul simon song….stil the one…..another 80′s reference…………hey…what the heck….still the cream of the crop for our humble lunchketball enterprise!!!!!!!!!
2) Phil……………had a great couple of days this week…….made shot after shot and continued to taunt opponents while shooting 3′s in their face!!!!!!! and posting them up!
3) Jimbo……………..still annoying the commish with his constant kicking of the ball and arguing the score with the commish…but he is a solid player, good defender and shooter….he’ll do that!
4) Matt and Adam tie for fourth………………solid effort for both…Matt only played one game but was very good…..shot about 75% from the field and dominated in his one game…….Adam put blood sweat and tears on the court…..and was magnificent with his efforts this week…..the consumate “team player” Adam is the guy you love to have on your team!
5) Eric…………………had a typical “E money” week…solid in steals, rebounds and scoring….only weakness is his passing skills…managed to almost decapitate a teamate with a wild pass on friday but his teamate survived with a sore nose!!!!
6) Darren….played one game and was a good solid player….typical Trip D game with not too many memorable moments! nonetheless solid here…..
7) Kracker. and Jacob tied at this spot……..sometimes they just killed their ratings with bad shots, blown passes and turnovers…..both played pretty good defense on days by stealing balls and blocking shots and shutting down their opponents……but their defense was most of their production this week….Kracker through the ball away a bit….and both fouled a bit also…..
8) Jr. ………….kinda flew under the radar this week….had one really good game and then a couple of really average games……he is only slightly behind the two above him….just a hair so dont read too much into his placement here….you can make a case for any of the three, Jacob , Kracker and Jr. to be above the other by a slight margin…..
there it is….nuff said…peace/out
G

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 6

Ok….its that time again….have to do the power rankings for the week………and this was a very difficult one to rank………but here goes:
1) Jorge……there was one game that was not his usual stellar game, and then followed by two games of absolute magnificence!!!!! its not even close….Jorge was head and shoulders above the rest of the pack this week!
2) Phil……played well during the week and VERY well on thursday pushing him to the top of the heap with only Jorge ahead of him!
3) Darren…………..only really spectacular game and one pretty standard game for his two appearances, but played well enough on both sides of the ball to grab the number 3 spot on the charts!
4) Tie….between Eric and Adam……Eric….only played one game but a great game it was….and Adam played all three and was a foundation of rebounding and team play that kept his teams either ahead or at least competitive the rest of the week….nobody outshined the other…..both were pretty damn good players this week!
5) Jimbo……had a slow week….did well in spots but did not play with as much fire and intensity as the two above him did! More ball kicking and missed shots, did not finish as strong as usual for the week!
6) Matt ………….had one game this week and was pretty good, but was not out there enough to knock the other guys ahead of him out of their spots…….needs to see the court more and become a better passes so he makes his team better…..when he does that he may be in the top five of the list every week!
7) Kracker……………played his ass off today………made some shots when he had to and didnt throw the ball away as much as usual…..played well enough to move into this spot, at least for one week!
8) tie- Jacob and Jr. ………..both had less than stellar games….Jacob played only one game and did not hit his usual shots….Jr. hit some key shots but missed a lot as well….neither of them played that much better than the other so I will keep them tied at this spot for this week!
peace/out………commish……………

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 5

Power rankings for the last week of January:
Only two games were played so far this week and so I am putting together a condensed version of the power rankings for this period:

1) Jorge (still clinging to this much cherished spot on the chart, has been #1 with a “bullet” since the power rankings were introduced and will occupy this spot until someone takes it away from him!
2) Jimbo (pretty solid both games, very good shooting and rebounding and passing through the stretch……job well done Jimmer……(ps….only negative is his proclivity to “kick” the ball out of laziness to prevent a play by the opposing teams! A new rule may have to be instated for those that kick the ball excessively instead of using their hands and arms!)
3) Darren pretty much was the deciding factor in his team’s victory on Monday…..did all that he could do and kept his team in the position to win!
4) Phil and Eric (tie) both played well in their games on Monday; pretty par for the course with their normal production!
6) Chris for his size is a force on the court, defensively and is a great passer and pretty good shooter…..what he lacks in height, he makes up for in determinatiion!
7) Adam was productive on the boards and defensively….only weakness is shooting percentage of getting the ball in the basket…but he is working on that!!!!
8) Jacob played ok in spots but his best game was on the court with his one on one with Kracker! Pretty good 3 point shooter….needs work on his inside game!
9) Kracker Beck……..what can I say? It has been a rough week for the man they call the “happy hooker” aka “meathook” aka “captain hook” aka “kelly clarkson” aka “beaker” aka “sonny bono” aka “not just eye candy”!!!! Did as much as he thought necessary on both sides of the ball, which was ok, and lost his one on one matchup with jacob…….poor guy…..my heart goes out to him…he played with a laceration on his hand during the one on one, and was having trouble breathing all week so we gotta cut him some slack!

there it is….peace/out! nuff said……G

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 4

Ok….so now I have the unenviable task of ranking the players of lunchketball for yet another week, the week of 1/21/13-1/25/13 ( a shortened week for us);
Some of the regulars did not play this week as we were dealing with many different issues of business meetings, vacations, sickness and rain…..so I will do my best to rank those of us who actually participated this week!
Number one is the spot EVERYONE wants to occupy, and this week was a difficult one for me……but here goes……..I must qualify this by saying that you DONT have to win every game to be in the number one spot, but it helps….and every so often there are performances that are so inspired that even the fact that that player did not win a game in a particular time frame, he should still get ample consideration and this is that time!
1) virtual tie between Jorge and Nick ……the reason is as follows…..Nick led both of his teams to victory by exemplary shooting and defensive skills and has to be considered a top dog this week! Jorge, even though was not able to win this week, fought through very tough odds and matchup problems and led his team to comebacks that were very inspirational and earned himself the energizer bunny of the week award! Yes this is not an official award as of yet, but bears some consideration for the player, who by his efforts and determination and refusal to give in and throw in the towel, leads his team to “almost” win!!!!!!!!!! it is because of his stellar play and skills that the games he lost were as close as they were! So there you have it…..a tie for first this week with Jorge and NIck!!!!!
2) Charlie, while posting some very average shooting numbers lost both times this week but did some amazing things and kept his teams close as well
3)Jimbo…………….was pretty good for the whole week and monday shot the lights out…..he is steadily one of lunchketball’s better contributors, even though he is constantly bickering during game with commish on matters of scoring and fair play (ps…he kicks the ball a bit much)
4) Eric…..played his tail off on monday and could NOT miss……had some average games during the rest of the week but still a dominant force out there on the court
5) Micheal Lucero ….a young lad that had a very very nice game on monday and carried his team to victory with some nice shots, steals and passes!
6) Phil ………….one game…..pretty good stats……..decent ranking for this week
7) tie this week between Darren and Chris……both played in one game this week and both played very well on all aspects of the game, defense shooting and team play!!!!
8) Jacob……………..an average week for Jake………sometimes shot well and sometimes didnt….good rebounding and defense puts him here………….
9) Jr………..played pretty average and did not hurt his team as they won with his good steady play in the games he was part of
10) Kracker……….pretty good defending Phil, made some steals and did not shoot too much to hurt his ranking…….but I cant realistically put him above anyone this week…… so let the challenges begin and see what happens in the power rankings after the one of one games are in progress……next up….tues. game between Jacob and Kracker to see who is the top dog between those two!!!!!!

ps…kudos to George for an inspirational speech on his donation seeking spot on the blog…………I feel like donating just to get the autographed sleeve ! How cool is that? and doesnt he just look like someone you have to donate money to? He sold it well…..nuff said….peace/out……..Commish (with a capital “C”)

Power Rankings: 2013 Week 3

Now is the time to change the power rankings for the week we just completed and it will go as such:
1) Jorge has not done anything to lose this prestigious spot and will continue to be in the position that we all aspire to be in!!!!!!!!
2)Skooter (Skoot, even though only competing in one game, was instrumental in bringing his team to victory through masterful 3 point shooting!!!!
3)Nathan as always, even with playing only one game showed why he is highly sought after to play with and why he can almost singlehandly dominate a game!!!!!
4)Charlie though only playing one game is still a force to reckon with
5)Nick is also a force to be reckoned with even if he only played in one game
6)Jim shot the lights out this week even in losing efforts and continues to play devils advocate with the commish in matters of discussion and evaluation of games….
7)Chris can play defense like very few his size and compliments any team he is on
8)Phil still can shoot with the best of them though this week was not on par with his av
erages..
9) Eric is a defensive threat and a layup demon even though this week he struggled in spots…..he is still “bigwater” and a force to be reckoned with
10)Darren and Gary Jr. make this list even though neither of them played this week
because of work or sickness
11)Jacob had ONE outstanding game but smelled up the joint the next day and was very uninspiring the next …..
12Junior was ok……..just ok…………….
13)Kracker was Kracker……..pretty decent defense….threw the ball away a lot and didnt score very much….his value was mostly spiritual and of the entertaining type most of the time…….
Ok….rankings done….so be it…………………..

POWER RANKINGS: 2013 Week 2

02_-_Single_Energizer_BatteryYou may recall that the following was written on Gary’s player profile page:

“[H]e has no qualms saying that a particular player isn’t as good as another… You always know where you stand in his rankings, and he does have rankings. He probably could rank everybody in the office if you asked him, and surprisingly quickly.”

On January 11, 2013, Gary made an honest blog of Lunchsketball by doing precisely as it had been written. In the comments section of the post titled “That Year In Lunchsketball”, Gary typed out the power rankings for the top players.

The rankings are not fixed.  Gary has promised to update them periodically. It is possible for a player to move up (or fall back) in these rankings. Each week on Thursday, the latest rankings available will be posted below, and copied in the comments for posterity. His methods for arriving at these rankings is not known. Discussion and commentary is strongly encouraged.

Without further adieu:

Taking into consideration this weeks games, I would list the power rankings as such:
1)Jorge
